Mr. M. Simon Hatfield has over 40 years of international and domestic experience in technical, managerial and executive positions with Imperial Oil, Exxon Production Research Company,
Petro-Canada, Chauvco Resources, Talisman Energy and Western Oil Sands. Mr. Hatfield has conducted business throughout the Americas, North and West Africa, the Middle East and South East Asia. He was pivotal in the founding of WesternZagros and led the company for 20 years, during which time it was built from a junior exploration company to a mid size independent producer. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Geology with Physics, a Masters of Science degree in Geology, has completed the Executive Development Program at the University of Calgary and is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Alfajiri Energy has signed a contract with the University of Calgary for a separator optimization laboratory study scheduled to start early in 2024. The results of the study will be used to design a pilot, which is planned during the Lwandjofu project feasibility stage.

DRC: Government awards exploitation of three gas blocks
The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) published on Wednesday evening the names of the companies it selected, following a call for tenders, to operate three gas blocks in Lake Kivu, in the east of the country.
- These are Symbion Power & Red, for the so-called "Makelele" block
- Winds Exploration and Production LLC ( Idjwi block )
- Alfajiri Energy Corporation ( Lwandjofu block )
DRC: the government launches negotiations for the signing of the production sharing contract for the Lwandjofu gas block.
The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo initiated on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, the negotiations for the production sharing contract between Alfajiri Energy Corporation SARL and SONAHYDROC SA concerning the exploitation of the Lwandjofu gas block. Speaking on this occasion, the Deputy Minister of Hydrocarbons, Wivine Moleka, recalled that these negotiations followed the tender process for the allocation of the Lwandjofu gas block in Lake Kivu, which began on July 28, 2022, and concluded with Alfajiri Energy Corporation SARL being declared the winning bidder.
Following these negotiations, the Ministry of Hydrocarbons specifies that the next step will be the signing of the Production Sharing Contract (PSC), which will enable the company to commence the actual gas processing works.
DRC: Signing of "Production sharing" contract for two gas blocks in Lake Kivu.
The government represented by the Ministers of Hydrocarbons, Didier Budimbu, the Minister of Finance, Nicolas Kazadi, and the companies (Winds Exploration and Production and Alfajiri Energy) signed on Saturday, September 9, 2023, in Kinshasa, the "production sharing" contract for the exploitation of two gas blocks in Lake Kivu opened for exploration and production in the DRC. A procedure that respected the rules, as unanimously testified by the two companies concerned alongside the National Hydrocarbons Company (SONAHYDROC S.A), representing the Congolese State, which will have an exclusive 20% share in the profits of the activities.

Alfajiri Energy Confirms Production Sharing Contract Signed for Lake Kivu Methane Extraction in the Lwandjofu Bloc
Renewable natural gas will generate electricity, alleviating poverty in eastern DRC.
CALGARY, CANADA – Alfajiri Energy, a Canadian energy company with Congolese-Canadian leadership, signed a production sharing contract (PSC) with the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo on September 9, 2023.
The PSC confers rights to extract biogenic methane (renewable natural gas) from the bottom of Lake Kivu in the Lwandjofu bloc, in the DRC.
The company has become aware of certain incorrect, misleading and potentially defamatory comments in the media about its leadership, its project plans, and the DRC government.
The process leading to the contract award for the Lwandjofu Block in Lake Kivu was rigorous, transparent and credible. The team behind Alfajiri Energy is experienced and serious, and the project plan is well advanced. Recent statements suggesting otherwise are untrue.
There is no improper relationship between Alfajiri Energy and anyone in the DRC Ministry of Hydrocarbons.
Alfajiri Energy strictly abides by anti-corruption legislation in both the DRC and Canada. Alfajiri Energy’s goal with this project is to safely extract the gas, efficiently transform it into electricity and bring reliable electricity supplies to the people of the Kivu region. The company will deploy proven Canadian energy industry technology to degasify the water of Lake Kivu, using the gas in a high efficiency facility to generate power for local consumption.
Reliable power supply will in turn create employment opportunities, reduce deforestation, improve health and education facilities, and reduce the lake’s natural emissions of methane (a potent greenhouse gas) to the atmosphere. The social and environmental potential of this project is extraordinary.
The lack of reliable energy is the principal cause of the extreme poverty facing many Africans and Congolese in particular, despite living in a country with rich mineral resources.
The Alfajiri Energy project has an approved workplan and an initial facilities design. The team is and will be working with experts at universities in the DRC and in Canada to, among other things, develop detailed depletion strategy and social and environmental impact assessment studies.
